A.P.A. stands for Advanced Provisioning Allowance, which is a common term used in the chartering of yachts. This allowance is essentially a budget set aside in advance for the operational expenses of a yacht charter. These expenses typically include fuel, food and beverage for the passengers, port fees, mooring charges, and any other incidental expenses that may occur during the charter.
The A.P.A. is usually calculated as a percentage of the charter fee, often ranging from 30-40%, depending on the specifics of the charter. This budget is given to the yacht’s captain before the charter commences, allowing the crew to provision the yacht to the charterer’s preferences, covering all the necessary expenses during the trip.
At the end of the charter, the captain will provide a detailed account of all expenditures to the charterer. If the total expenses are less than the A.P.A., the remainder is refunded to the charterer. Conversely, if the expenses exceed the A.P.A., the charterer is responsible for covering the additional amount.
